To all fans, followers, surfers and viewers out there! We are excited to anounce the new dates for the Curacao Challenge 2012! The event will take place on 17-18-19-20 of May!

Last year the Curacao Challenge was honoured to host the IFCA Slalom World Championships. Even though there was not a lot of wind, the event was a succes. It turned out to be a funfilled event for both participants and viewers! This year the event is again for surfers of all ages and all levels. We hope last years event inspired surfers to improve their skills and viewers to attempt a new sport? We look forward to your participation in the 2012 Curacao Challenge.

This year the races will be a real challenge for the participants, so get ready! Check our website regularly for new updates and follow us on facebook and twitter.. Pass on the info!

This Easter weekend we will bring you a lot of news from the biggest windsurfing event on Curacao.

With more than 100 competitors from different wind regions it promises to be exciting. Of course we don’t want you to miss out on the action. That’s why we want to give as much footage and information as we can provide. Of course through our website.

We have photographers running around, a camera crew, video cameras attached to booms, GPS coordinates, results… whatever we can get our hands on!

Official Press Conference a success

Last wednesday an official press conference was held at our main sponsors Albert Heijn. We had quite a set-up with an artificial beach, competitors in the back in front of surf board and sails.

There was quite a lot of press present from radio, to newspapers and a lot of photographers. There was a lot of flashing going on. At the table we had the main sponsor, the event organizer and the race coordinator. All with different takes on the event.

The main message of the day: we are ready for the event and we are especially ready to have a lot of fun and excitement!

Local Curacao windsurfers ready for the main event!

With just two weeks to go to the main event, local windsurfclub Windfreaks held a final big downwind slalom competition on the Spanish Water. The months of training really showed off as all competitors improved significantly with their race starts and completion of the turns. It was quite a show with some good wind speeds despite of the forecasts.

Highlights of the day were Victor Wederfoort’s comeback wins after a bad second heat, the overall win of (freestyler) Felix Martina and big improvements for Indigo Kooij in the B-class.

We have to wait until the first week of April to see how they compare against the international field of competitors. But for those traveling to Curacao, the windsurfers are ready to take the stage and crown a local winner this year!

Online registration for the Curacao Challenge 2010 now possible

Now you can register yourself to become part of the biggest and most fun filled windsurfing event of 2010!!!

If you could talk to any of the Curacao Challenge 2009 participants, they would tell you that there’s no windsurfing competition on this planet that is more fun or more exciting than this one. And now it’s possible for you to experience the Curacao Challenge 2010 for yourself. Come and join the rest of us and register yourself online now.

After last year’s spectacular success, the organizers of the Curacao Challenge Slalom and Freestyle windsurfing competition, planned an even bigger and better event, this time, from the 1st – 6th of April 2010.

Reminder, there’s really only limited space available. We will only be able to accept a certain amount of sailors, so make sure you register as soon as possible and don’t miss it!!!

Registration fees for all the different disciplines are for those participants registering before the 1th of March 2010! After the 1st of March 2010 20% is added to all fees. Register after the 19th of March 2010 and 50% will be added to the entrance fee.

Fees can be transferred to or deposited on RBTT Bank acctnr. 10347283 Windfreaks Curacao (please mention name, sailnr. and discipline) or fees can be (for international competitors only!!!) rendered cash on the day of final registration on the 1st of April (please bring printout with online registration date with you)

If you are not living in Curacao, you are an international competitor!

Event & Website Launch a great success with some special VIPs!

After weeks of preparations and hard work the big night was finally there. We officially launched the event and the website to the press and our sponsors. The location: of course at the best surf school of Curacao. A lot of people where present and even special guests like world famous freestyle windsurfer Kiri Thode. Also our minister of Education, Culture and Sports Marilyn Alcalá-Wallé paid a visit and even addressed the crowd. She was particularly happy about how the organization feels about the event and it’s potential to contribute to the Curacao Tourism.

We had a chance to explain more what we want to do with the event. Of course it is going to be bigger and better than last year with more international competitors. But we also want to take a step towards the fans. That is why we made this website as it is. During the event we will have an on-site press office where a team of surf-enthusiasts will provide real time news and information with interviews, videos, pictures and a whole lot more. This offers our audience (on Curacao or wherever in this world) a great inside view of the competition.

We want to commit to you, the audience, and that is also why we try to keep you up to date through our facebook fanpage and our twitter account. Also we offer the chance for the audience to provide cool pictures they took of the event or video or whatever is cool and interesting.

We hope you all will like it and we appreciate your ideas and comments! It’s a work in progress.

After the presentations Curacao’s best surfers together with two from Bonaire and Curacao gave away a spectacular low-wind freestyle demonstration in the dark!
